This brief tutorial will ensure that important emails from GEO will go into your Primary Gmail folder instead of into the “Promotions” category. You can also set up the filter so it automatically stars the emails, marks them as important, etc.

First, you’ll want to open up Gmail and navigate to the Settings menu by clicking on the settings/gear icon, then clicking on “See all settings”.

Once you’re here, navigate to the “Filters and Blocked Addresses” tab, and click on “Create a new filter”.

A box will appear with several text entry fields (“From”, “To”, “Subject”, etc.).

You can tinker with this as you see fit, but for ease, we’ve included the following search terms, which you can copy+paste into the “From” field:
{ @geo3550.org, @opavote.com} OR {Subject:”[GEO]”}
This filters any messages coming from the domains geo3550.org and opavote.com (our ballot platform), as well as any email with a subject line containing “[GEO]”.
After you’re done here, click on “Continue”. In the next box, you’ll see several filtering options.

We recommend checking “Star it”, “Always mark it as important”, and “Categorize as: Primary”.
Creating this filter will help ensure that you get ALL of GEO’s important updates!
